of the Year, the Academic Inspiration Award, and various Diversity service awards. He has received two National Awards of Excellence from the National Hispanic Science Network on Drug Abuse (NHSN), one for contributions in
Public Service (2006) and the other for
Mentoring (2008). He is a founding member of the steering committee of the
RED LatinoAmerica (REDLA) on drug addictionand the founding Chair of the International Research Collaboration Subcommittee of the NHSN.
In February of 2006 Dr. Cepeda-Benito was appointed Associate Dean of Faculties, and in June of 2009 he was named Dean of Faculties and Associate Provost. Texas A&M University is home to almost 3000 faculty and more than 48,000 students. This land grant, sea grant, space grant university has a main campus (College Station), two branch campuses (Galveston, and Doha-Qatar), and three, international, academic centers (Italy, Mexico, and Costa Rica). The main campus alone is home to 10 colleges and 66 departments. The role of the Dean of Faculties and Associate Provost is to work with multiple constituencies to facilitate communication, improve the university climate, and observe and protect academic freedom and the participation of the faculty in university governance. His office provides leadership and service in many forms, including professional development, and a firm commitment to quality in observing the diligence, fairness and equity of tenure, promotion, and merit evaluation-processes.
