Big 12 Faculty Fellows Program

Texas A&M University began participating in the Big 12 Faculty Fellowship Program in 1997 to stimulate faculty scholarly interactions among the Big 12 Universities.  This program offers faculty the opportunity to travel to member institutions to exchange ideas regarding teaching, service, and research.  The Faculty Fellowship Program has the following general guidelines:

  • A faculty member may visit any other Big 12 university (refer to list below).   Most visits are planned for two weeks, but longer or shorter visits are possible.
  • There must be preliminary contact between a host unit (department, research center, library, etc.) and the individual to determine mutual interest and available dates.
  • The host unit formally invites the proposed Faculty Fellow by sending a letter of invitation.
  • The faculty member’s home institution provides funds toward transportation and allowable expenses.  The Dean of Faculties and Associate Provost Office will award $1,000 to each college (and the library) at the College Station campus for these expenses.
  • Each college will determine its own method for selecting their Faculty Fellow(s) for the year.  A completed application of the selected applicant must be submitted to the Dean of Faculties and Associate Provost Office for approval of funding.
  • After the visit the Faculty Fellow must submit a brief report to the Dean of Faculties and Associate Provost Office describing outcomes of the visit and offering suggestions for the program.
  • The Faculty Fellows will be responsible for arranging coverage of their duties at their home campus during their absence.
  • The host unit will announce the visit of a Faculty Fellow and the activities in which the Fellow will engage.
  • The visiting Faculty Fellow may consult with faculty and/or students, offer lectures or symposia, or engage in whatever activities are agreeable to the Fellow and host institution.  Texas A&M encourages activities that further the teaching and research interests of our faculty.
