The
Texas A&M University African American Professional Organization
was formally established in 1992 to be a mechanism through which
African Americans are fully recognized as contributing members of
Texas A&M University and the community-at-large. The organization
serves as a support and advocacy group for faculty, staff and students
on concerns and issues at the University, local, state and national
level. |

The
purpose of the American Association of University Professors (AAUP)
is "to facilitate a more effective cooperation among teachers
and research scholars in universities and colleges... for the promotion
of the interests of higher education and research, and in general
to increase the usefulness and advance the standards, ideals, and
welfare of the profession" (Article I, AAUP Constitution).
Since its establishment in 1915, the AAUP has worked to give faculty
and administrators guidelines on how to function ethically and effectively.
Our major concerns are academic freedom, shared governance, and
due process. The AAUP has also provided guidance in other areas,
including professional ethics, research and teaching, discrimination,
the faculty role in governing the university, and student rights
and freedoms. |

with Imperatives 1 though 3 and 5 though 8 of Vision 2020, ColAgnet
looks for the strengthening of the academic programs, elevation
of research and scholarship, increased access to intellectual resources
and diversification and globalization of the University Community. |
