Texas A&M University is part of the Texas A&M University System (which includes 11 universities). The chancellor oversees the day-to-day operation and management of the Texas A&M University System, while the nine-member Board of Regents oversees the administration and sets policy direction for all system members. The regents and the chancellor are appointed by the Governor of Texas.
The president of Texas A&M has executive responsibility for the university as a whole (including the branch campuses and other constituent units). The president reports to the chancellor. The provost and executive vice president serves as the chief academic officer and leads the academic enterprise.
The vice provost for Faculty Affairs leads all faculty related matters in the university including the recruitment, evaluation and advancement of faculty and academic administrators. The vice president for Research leads in the delivery of strategic support to further the University’s research mission, facilitate collaborations to increase federal funding, strengthen the research infrastructure, encourage commercialization partnerships, and ensure research compliance.
The deans of colleges and schools have administrative responsibility for their respective academic unit, and are assisted by a variety of associate deans. Department heads directly influence campus climate and culture through the facilitation of support and development opportunities for the faculty within their respective academic units. Each department head reports to a dean, and each dean reports to the provost regarding the academic affairs of their unit.
