Organization of the University

Texas A&M University is part of the Texas A&M University System (which includes 11 universities). The chancellor oversees the day-to-day operation and management of the Texas A&M University System, while the nine-member Board of Regents oversees the administration and sets policy direction for all system members. The regents and the chancellor are appointed by the Governor of Texas.

The president of Texas A&M has executive responsibility for the university as a whole (including the branch campuses and other constituent units). The president reports to the chancellor. The provost and executive vice president serves as the chief academic officer and leads the academic enterprise.

The vice provost for Faculty Affairs leads all faculty related matters in the university including the recruitment, evaluation and advancement of faculty and academic administrators. The vice president for Research leads in the delivery of strategic support to further the University’s research mission, facilitate collaborations to increase federal funding, strengthen the research infrastructure, encourage commercialization partnerships, and ensure research compliance. 

The deans of colleges and schools have administrative responsibility for their respective academic unit, and are assisted by a variety of associate deans. Department heads directly influence campus climate and culture through the facilitation of support and development opportunities for the faculty within their respective academic units. Each department head reports to a dean, and each dean reports to the provost regarding the academic affairs of their unit.

The Division of Academic and Strategic Collaborations leverages partnerships with public and private organizations to help create life-long educational and economic opportunities, discover and share solutions to societal challenges, and enrich lives through cultural events and services.

The Graduate and Professional School provides programming for Texas A&M graduate students, maintains records for all graduate and professional students as they progress through their respective degree programs, and coordinates graduate fellowships.

The Center for Teaching Excellence (CTE) supports the educational mission of Texas A&M University through evidence-based professional development opportunities promoting proven and innovative instructional approaches aligned with faculty and student success. CTE hosts a variety of workshops for faculty, offers individual consultations to faculty, provides an abundance of teaching resources and assists departments with curriculum redesigns.

Get Involved

Faculty networks represent opportunities to engage with colleagues around issues, shared interests, and opportunities for professional development. They are integral to the campus community and amplify the faculty voice to university administration.

Shared governance is an important value at Texas A&M University. In addition to serving in titled leadership positions, faculty can participate in the governance of the university is by serving on the Faculty Senate. The Senate is comprised of multiple committees, and meets on a monthly basis.

The Council of Principal Investigators (CPI) is composed of Principal Investigators (PIs) that represent PIs from members of the Texas A&M research community. The CPI is committed to the continued improvement of the research environment for students, faculty and staff. Specifically, the CPI and the PIs it represents endeavor to work with administration to provide an effective and efficient research organization to achieve the goal of being nationally recognized and competitive in research and teaching.

Faculty Conversation Café is an interactive discussion held monthly with both a zoom and in-person option available for participation.

Texas A&M University at Galveston is the source for all things “ocean-oriented” at Texas A&M University. TAMUG offers a unique blend of marine and maritime programs, including majors in science, business, engineering, liberal arts and transportation.

Texas A&M at Qatar provides instruction in engineering, the arts and science, and a variety of interdisciplinary minors. The curriculum offered at Texas A&M at Qatar are identical to the ones offered at the main campus in College Station, Texas. Courses are taught in English and in a coeducational setting.
